Cerebral Palsy Support Canberra — Canberra-Wide Disability Support
Life Assist Abilities Support provides specialist cerebral palsy support services across Canberra, delivered by trained workers who understand autism and neurodiversity.
What is Cerebral Palsy?
Cerebral palsy encompasses several types including spastic CP (tight muscles), dyskinetic CP (involuntary movements), ataxic CP (balance and coordination difficulties), and mixed types. Severity ranges from mild (walking independently with minor coordination challenges) to severe (requiring wheelchairs, complex equipment, and comprehensive physical assistance). People with CP may also experience associated conditions including epilepsy, vision or hearing impairment, intellectual disability, or communication difficulties.
Every person with cerebral palsy has a unique presentation. Some individuals walk independently or with aids, whilst others use wheelchairs. Some communicate verbally, whilst others use AAC devices or alternative communication. Some live independently with minimal support, whilst others require 24/7 assistance. Life Assist Abilities Support tailors our approach to each person's specific physical abilities, therapy goals, equipment needs, and support requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions About Cerebral Palsy Support
Do your support workers have manual handling training?
Yes. All workers supporting participants with physical disabilities receive comprehensive manual handling training, safe transfer techniques, and postural management education. We prioritise participant safety and dignity in all physical assistance.
Can you implement therapy plans from my physio or OT?
Absolutely. We work closely with your therapy team to implement exercises, positioning schedules, and therapeutic activities in your daily routine. Our workers are trained to follow therapy plans and report progress back to therapists.
Do you support people who use wheelchairs or mobility equipment?
Yes. We support participants using manual wheelchairs, power wheelchairs, walking frames, standing frames, and other mobility equipment. Our workers are trained in equipment operation, maintenance checks, and safe assistance.
Can you help with eating and swallowing difficulties?
We can provide mealtime support following guidelines from speech pathologists, including texture-modified meals, positioning, and feeding assistance. For complex dysphagia, we coordinate with your speech pathologist to ensure safe practices.
