Personal Care & Assistance in Canberra — NDIS Support
Compassionate, dignified personal care from trained support workers who respect your routines, preferences, and independence. Available across all Canberra regions.
What Is Personal Care Under the NDIS?
Personal care refers to hands-on support with the daily personal activities that a participant needs assistance with due to their disability. This includes help with showering, dressing, grooming, toileting, eating, mobility, and medication management. It is among the most intimate forms of disability support, which is why choosing the right provider — and the right support worker — matters so much.
Life Assist Abilities Support is a registered NDIS provider delivering personal care and assistance services across Canberra and the ACT. We understand that personal care is deeply personal. Our approach is built on dignity, choice, and respect — ensuring every participant feels comfortable, safe, and in control of how their care is delivered. For a detailed overview of what to expect, read our guide on what to expect from personal care support.

How Is Personal Care Funded?
Personal care is funded under Core Supports — Assistance with Daily Life in your NDIS plan. This is the same funding category that covers daily living support and in-home support. You can use this funding flexibly to access personal care workers at times that suit your routine — whether you need support in the morning, evening, or both.
Participants who require overnight assistance or sleepover support can also access personal care during these hours, depending on their plan. Rates are set by the NDIS Price Guide and vary based on the time of day, day of the week, and complexity of care required.
How We Match You With the Right Support Worker
Because personal care involves close, physical support, finding the right worker is essential. Life Assist Abilities Support takes a careful, person-centred approach to matching participants with personal care workers. We consider gender preferences, cultural background, language spoken, personality compatibility, and any specific requirements such as experience with particular disabilities or medical conditions.
We prioritise consistency — assigning the same support workers to your regular shifts wherever possible. Familiar workers understand your routines, know your preferences, and can provide care more efficiently and comfortably. If a match is not right, we work quickly to find a better fit.
Trained and Qualified Workers
All Life Assist Abilities Support personal care workers hold current NDIS Worker Screening clearances and are trained in manual handling, infection control, first aid, and CPR. Workers supporting participants with complex care needs receive additional specialised training relevant to the individual they support.
Maintaining Your Dignity and Privacy
Dignity is not an afterthought in personal care — it is the foundation. Our workers are trained to maintain privacy at every stage of a personal care interaction, from knocking before entering to using towels and screens appropriately during showering and dressing. We follow each participant's lead on how they want their care delivered, and we encourage open communication about what feels comfortable.
Personal care can also be combined with other services from Life Assist Abilities Support. Many participants access personal care alongside domestic assistance for household tasks, creating a comprehensive support package that covers all aspects of daily life. Participants with physical disability often benefit from this integrated approach.
